Vinyl decals and other graphics and stickers can be applied to any surface that is non-porous. It's not a good idea to apply vinyl to irregular surfaces such as raw wood, brick, rough plaster or stucco as it will be difficult to get a good, smooth adhesion that will last. While decals can be removed later, it's best to choose a location that can be fairly permanent, instead of having to remove or relocate the decal later. Do you want to make sure you get the perfect application? Vinyl decals are easy for anyone to apply and no special equipment or skills are needed. The first step in applying vinyl decals is to prepare the surface well. You can clean the surface area using warm soapy water or a window or glass cleaning spray to make sure there is no dirt, dust or small particles that will get in the way. Allow time for the area to dry thoroughly after cleaning. If the product you use contains alcohol, make sure that the alcohol has completely evaporated before you proceed. Next you will want to make sure that the surface temperature is appropriate for applying decals. A good range is between 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit. If it is a cold day, you can use a hand held hair dryer to gently warm the surface. For smaller decals to be applied to cars or other vehicles, you will next want to measure the area where the decal is to be applied. Once you've chosen the spot, you can use scotch tape along the edge of the decal to keep it in the correct location. When the decal is secure and level and you are sure you have it where you want it to be, you can slowly start peeling the decal. Start from the lower right hand corner and peel the clear backing away from the decal. If your decal is highly detailed, make sure that it separates completely from the backing. Once the backing has been removed, you can slowly lower the decal back down towards the surface. The secret to applying decals is to be extremely careful not to get any creases or wrinkles or to allow any dust to be trapped underneath the decal. Leaving the application tape on, you can squeegee the surface to ensure a good grip and to remove any air bubbles. After about 5 minutes, the application tape can be removed, and voila! Your decal application is finished!
